Project description partcipation in the National Model United Nations in New York.
Objective target of the project:
In participating in NMUN the students have the opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge about the UN and a member of the UN they could represent during simulations and to practise the acquired knowledge contemporarily within the scope of a business game. The consequential learning effect is far better and much more intensive than in a “normal” seminar. Furthermore apart from this scientific knowledge so-called “soft skills” are imparted such as public speaking, conception of speeches, knowledge of the English language implying special technical terms etc. The students take part in a week-long simulation in the USA at the UN and have the opportunity to compete and assert themselves in a diplomatic way with about 3200 other students, mostly from the United States, in a sophisticated and competitive environment. Within this scope those skills and abilities are arbitrated which have an outstanding importance in the future course of studies as well as in future careers. Beyond the project contributes to the understanding among nations on this level. For the students the participation involves an immense effort, furthermore it demands a significant financial co-payment for flight, accommodation, registration fees and board.
In the past years the MUNBonn delegation successfully participated at the National Model United Nations in New York winning several awards for their portrayal of various countries. The countries represented in the last years were Finland, the People's Republic of China and Liberia (joint delegation with the University of Trier), the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Brunei Darussalam. At the National Model United Nations 2010 the delegation of Bonn represented Lebanon.
